I definitely recommend the series to everyone who likes fantasy, fairytales, adventure and romance。 A Heart so Fierce and Broken was truly a continuation of the original story, after the curse is broken。 It focuses on the character of Commander Grey (my heart throb) instead of Rhen and Harper, though they both make appearances and we see what “Happily Ever After” looks like in the Kingdom of Everfall。 I think readers will find it interesting to say the least。THE WORLDBUILDINGAlthough this book does take place in Emberfall, we get to see the world of Syl Hallow for the first time and I loved it。 Again, the world in this was so imaginable and simple。 I am so glad to say that it does not get to the point where it's over described and overwhelming。 I loved getting to learn about the different customs in Syl Hallow, the language, even learning more about (the scravers backstory and his own kingdom that exists along with Syl Hallow)。 Again, along with the world-building, the author also never failed to leave me bored。 I kept wanting to read to find out more and find out what would happen。 The pacing and writing was fantastic。 Getting to know more about the characters we already know was so interesting and fun, as well as meeting new ones who became very dear to me by the end。THE CHARACTERSIn A Curse so Dark and Lonely Grey was my favorite character, and in this book my love for him has just grown and grown。 It’s no surprise that a book completely revolving around him made me so unbelievably happy。 But genuinely, Grey's character development was so good。 His internal conflict between duty and what he thinks is right was balanced just so, not overwhelming the story with unnecessary monologues and such。 We really get to see his growth from being a commander sworn to a prince — to becoming his own person who no longer takes orders but gives them and finally accepting who he was destined to be。 Lia Mara is the firstborn daughter of Karis Luran of Syhl Shallow which is over the mountains from Emberfall。 Lia Mara is different from her cruel and calculating mother and sister。 She is seen as weaker for being compassionate and in her mother's eyes, that weakness is what makes her unfit to be queen。 And so the title of heir is handed to her younger sister instead。 I'll give you this - Brigid Kemmerer knows how to write amazing, strong women! Lia Mara was strong, compassionate and loyal。 (Also she’s a book lover) I think I might even like her more than Harper。Harper's brother Jake was a minor character in ACSDAL - but here he takes on a more prominent role and I loved it! He is sarcastic, fierce and smart。 I loved the energy and relationship he and Grey had! I also loved Tycho, he had such an unwavering, fierce loyalty towards Grey, no matter what, and I adored it。 Overall Thoughts: The relationship between (view spoiler)[ Lia Mara and Grey was great because it didn't happen instantly and it didn't grow out of nothing。 It was obvious that their attraction stemmed from mutual respect and that was an approach that I really enjoyed。 (hide spoiler)] Again the writing style was so simplistic and flowing that this was another book I just did not want to put down。 I loved the new story that is introduced and I can't wait to read the third!TW: graphic violence, torture, and murder 。。。more

I liked this more than the first book。 Because I am in love with Grey, of course。 But the sudden character change made me a bit irritated。 It was such a sudden change from the first book, that it took me about 200 pages just to get used to it and get into the story properly。 But when I got over all the problems it actually got interesting and I had an easy time reading it。 But the plot twists very easily predictable, I didn't find anything too shocking。 And the author used these "eveything/all b I liked this more than the first book。 Because I am in love with Grey, of course。 But the sudden character change made me a bit irritated。 It was such a sudden change from the first book, that it took me about 200 pages just to get used to it and get into the story properly。 But when I got over all the problems it actually got interesting and I had an easy time reading it。 But the plot twists very easily predictable, I didn't find anything too shocking。 And the author used these "eveything/all but smth" (she did all but fall) quite often。 That also threw me off at times。SPOILERSI really liked Jake's character and his importance in this book and I hope to see more of him in the next。 I also loves Iisak。 He made me stay and all I want is a good ending for him。 。。。more

Hmm。 I don't know how I feel about this book。 I really loved Grey in the first book of this series。 But I somehow felt like I was reading about a different character also named Grey。 It was a bit of a slog to get through and the end sets up one of my least favorite tropes。 So。。。。 Let's hope I enjoy #3 more! I wish we had half stars because I feel like this was more of a 3。5 star read。 Although the first half of the book was a bit slow, I really enjoyed the second half。 I loved the new characters and I loved learning more about Grey。 There are so many different ways this series could end and I'm a bit terrified to read the last one! 4/5⭐️The start was really slow but after that it was amazing!!!!I really like Lia Mara and Grey and the romance is really good!! I’m glad there weren’t any chapters about rhen bc I kinda hate him😃 The first one was honestly better but okay! Also there were a few good plot twists that I really enjoyed but the plot twist in the epilogue really wasn’t necessary, okay I hated that plot twist😩😩

I cannot believe I read this in a day。 THIS was a wild ride。 Holy smokes。 But to keep this spoiler free- this book rocked my socks off。 I wasn’t sure where we were going with a seemingly perfect ending to the first book and what more could come from the beauty and beast retelling of it all- but I was wrong。 This book knew exactly where to go and what to do。 I’m falling for all the new characters, and the characters we met who get a serious glow up。 Perfect world building and storytelling。 It was I cannot believe I read this in a day。 THIS was a wild ride。 Holy smokes。 But to keep this spoiler free- this book rocked my socks off。 I wasn’t sure where we were going with a seemingly perfect ending to the first book and what more could come from the beauty and beast retelling of it all- but I was wrong。 This book knew exactly where to go and what to do。 I’m falling for all the new characters, and the characters we met who get a serious glow up。 Perfect world building and storytelling。 It was an absolute enjoy and now I need to go get the third one!! Again, the author weaves in topics like mental illness, PTSD, and other diseases and it’s no big deal。 This is such a welcome attitude to helping destroy the stigma around mental health。 Such a fan! 。。。more

I thought the first half was boring and depressing, but the action picked up during the second half。 The addition of new characters helped as well。It will be interesting to see how everything is resolved in third book。

This book was amazing!!! I wasn’t really a fan of A Curse so Dark and Lonely so I wasn’t planning on continuing it but, I heard a lot about how the sequel was WAY better than the first and I decided to give it a change。 Spoiler, IT SUCCEEDED!!! I am so glad I gave this book another try! Grey is now officially on my Book-boyfriends list, and trust me it’s REALLY hard to get on that list。 << POTENTIAL SPOILERS>>Let’s start at the beginning: I really loved Grey in the first book so when I found out this book was going to be about him I was filled with joy! I like Harper and Rhen in the first book as well but, Grey just stole my heart。 I started hating Rhen in this book and was sort of disappointed because I kind of liked him in the first book。 Near the end of this book I was starting to really loathe him and think he can never redeem himself but after that epilogue, he may have a slight chance。 Harper, I love her。 But, at first it didn’t feel right that she was staying with Rhen after what he did to Grey but I later understood, (sort of)。 Rhen is a good guy。 He was afraid of the magic because of what it had made him endure for years。 So I do sort of sympathize for him but I guess I’ll have to wait until I read the last book。 Now onto my favorite part of the book: Lia Mara and Grey!! Words can’t describe how much I love Lia Mara and Grey’s relationship。 The amount of times I’ve smiled, blushed and laughed at their interactions。 I love their dynamic! I did not expect to fall this hard for the both of them。 I sympathized for her character a lot, since I know what it feels like to feel forgotten and unimportant。 But, Grey was there for her when she needed him just as she was there for him when he needed her。 (I also feel like the scraver is a Grey and Lia Mara shipper as well, or at least feels the connection)。 I cant wait to read more about their relationship! Final Thoughts: I gave this book 5 Stars because there was never a point in this book where I was bored。 EVERYTHING was perfect and I couldn’t stop gushing about how much I love it。 I literally cannot wait to read the last book! I have to wait till may, but the wait will be worth it! I’m so glad I gave this series another try!! I would 11/10 recommend this book!! 。。。more

New characters emerge in this series, as well as a new romance。 I loved all of them--especially the fantastical Scraver creature。I felt like the original characters changed a bit too much in book two (from book one), but overall, I couldn't put this book down。 New characters emerge in this series, as well as a new romance。 I loved all of them--especially the fantastical Scraver creature。I felt like the original characters changed a bit too much in book two (from book one), but overall, I couldn't put this book down。 。。。more

I loved and hated this book。 I have whiplash from the characters, everything feels driven by them and everything else is just along for the ride。 Not a ton of “world building” but we get enough to use our imaginations to fill in the blanks。 I’m really hoping I like the third book sooner, because this one I struggled to get into due to the characters taking punches to their integrity。 It was a struggle。 In sum, this was a true middle book in the sibling rivalry of trilogies。 Hoping I feel some ki I loved and hated this book。 I have whiplash from the characters, everything feels driven by them and everything else is just along for the ride。 Not a ton of “world building” but we get enough to use our imaginations to fill in the blanks。 I’m really hoping I like the third book sooner, because this one I struggled to get into due to the characters taking punches to their integrity。 It was a struggle。 In sum, this was a true middle book in the sibling rivalry of trilogies。 Hoping I feel some kind of closure by the end of AVSBAD。 。。。more

In the beginning I was supremely disappointed that the MC in this book wasn't the same。 Because while Grey was essentially my favorite character, I still wanted more Harper and Rhen。 However I beg of you, leave those characters behind, take this as a side series or something built in the same world, and I think I love this book even more than the first。But when you take the two together, I do understand the aggrieved opinions of those who don't particularly favor this book。 I understand, I sympa In the beginning I was supremely disappointed that the MC in this book wasn't the same。 Because while Grey was essentially my favorite character, I still wanted more Harper and Rhen。 However I beg of you, leave those characters behind, take this as a side series or something built in the same world, and I think I love this book even more than the first。But when you take the two together, I do understand the aggrieved opinions of those who don't particularly favor this book。 I understand, I sympathize, but Tycho, Grey, even like。。。everyone。。。it just compensated and made the journey a masterful adventure。 Please give it a chance, just leave your expectations at the door。 Read them back to back, without time to theorize potential outcomes, if you don't head my advice you will be disappointed。But if you come in, thinking blank slate, ground zero, it's a journey worth taking。 。。。more

I liked this book, but it felt like a world away from the first one。 I found that considering it as a spinoff, rather than a continuation, made it more enjoyable for me。 Still excellent writing and worth a read, but it might not be how you'd expect the second novel of a series to go。 I'm excited to see how the last novel goes。 I liked this book, but it felt like a world away from the first one。 I found that considering it as a spinoff, rather than a continuation, made it more enjoyable for me。 Still excellent writing and worth a read, but it might not be how you'd expect the second novel of a series to go。 I'm excited to see how the last novel goes。 。。。more

Ooooookay, so if you know me then you know I don’t usually EVER do low ratings。 But I literally cannot bring myself to rate above a 2/2。5 for this story, and it PAINS me。 I really enjoyed the first book! Though I finished this one faster than the first book, it doesn't mean that I liked it more。Slow paced but the overall plot had me going, introduced a new set of characters as well as a new system of magic。 One thing I didn't like about is the portrayal of the existing characters, especially Harper and Rhen。 They somehow changed from what we know of them just because it's told in a different perspective。 The last chapters had me gasping but still quite uneventful。 I'm still picking up the third Though I finished this one faster than the first book, it doesn't mean that I liked it more。Slow paced but the overall plot had me going, introduced a new set of characters as well as a new system of magic。 One thing I didn't like about is the portrayal of the existing characters, especially Harper and Rhen。 They somehow changed from what we know of them just because it's told in a different perspective。 The last chapters had me gasping but still quite uneventful。 I'm still picking up the third book to see how this ends。 。。。more
